Important Reminder: Individual Taxes Deadline

Taxes, taxes, taxes! We’re in the middle of tax season and have an important reminder for clients needing their personal tax return prepared with us at Brannen CPA Services. Please note that in order to file by the IRS’s original April 15th deadline, we require all individual tax information to be submitted to our offices one month prior on March 15, 2024. Any information received after this date may require an extension to be filed for your return. At Brannen CPA Services, we’re here to provide honest advice and relevant insights. Here are a few tips to help you.

Get Organized!

Last month on the blog, we went over the key documents you may need to gather to file your taxes. If you’re still in the process of organizing your tax materials, consider using our Tax Organizer Worksheet. Please give us a call if you’d like a copy!

Include Receipts!

If you plan to deduct business expenses or charitable donations, make sure you have the appropriate evidence to support your claims, usually receipts. Business expenses should also have the business purpose documented. For charitable donations over $250, you’ll also need to submit a letter from the charity as well. If you have any questions, please let us know!

Don’t Forget About Home Improvements and Vehicle Purchases!

When you make energy-efficiency upgrades to your home, such as installing a heat pump hot water heater, let us know. Include details about the home improvements you made in 2023 when you submit the rest of your tax documents; there may be deductions you can claim. Similarly, there are federal tax credits for electric vehicle purchases. If you went electric last year, include details of the purchase in your tax materials so we can ensure you receive the full tax credit.
